"Monitoring for fraight trains already technically possible"

The Rhineland-Palatinate MPs Tabea Rößner invited the MEP and chairman of the Transport Committee in the European Parliament, Michael Cramer (Alliance '90 / The Greens), and visited together with the Greens Direct candidate, Regine Wilke and other representatives of the District Association, the noise measuring station on the railway line in Leutesdorf.

Leutesdorf/Germany: It was a surprise to many participants that the station is technically able to capture all the relevant data for each train, each car and even each individual wheel.

It is impressive that equipped with microphone, infrared camera and six sensors in the track the system can detect all wheel defects of the rolling stock. Flats and polygons cause noise even when retrofitted with composite soles brakes. If these defects are being detected early and faulty wheels are replaced quickly, the security is being increased; noise and costs are being reduced. All sides benefit. And it would increase public acceptance for the transfer of freight to rail.

Tabea Rösner has therefore determined last year that it is essential for the purposes of noise reduction, to collect and analyze this data nationwide and demands freight trains monitoring at all relevant locations of the Federal Republic. With the use of these findings, the change could accelerate to quieter brake blocks and make the instrument of noise-related track access charges more effectively.

The Green Direct candidate, Regine Wilke, is also is in favor of that the technical possibilities are used as soon as possible and the operators of the cars have to be reminded of their duty to relieve our particularly affected region by train noise.
